About The Position

Primary Purpose: To perform skilled and work operating one of several types of heavy equipment used to excavate, load, transfer or move dirt, gravel, or other material in the maintenance or construction of streets, and other public properties. Milling and construction of new roads or streets. Employee may be assigned to lower-level equipment when necessary. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Individual must possess a valid Texas Commercial Class B Driver's License with an acceptable driving record and all required endorsements High School diploma/GED preferred Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to understand and follow detailed written or verbal instructions A b i l i t y to r e ad a nd i n t erp r et d o c u m e n ts s u c h a s s a f e t y ru l e s , o p era t i n g a nd m a i nt e n a n c e i n s tru c t i o n s , a nd pro c e d u r e m a n u al s . Ability to communicate effectively with others Ability to correctly prioritize workload Ability to work rotating work schedules and evenings as needed Maintenance and basic repair procedures of a variety of equipment and power tools used to perform job assignments Basic construction methods and practices Experience: 3+ years of heavy equipment operation preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties: Operates large sweepers, loaders, mowers, dump trucks, and other types of light to heavy equipment Performs routine maintenance on heavy machinery and equipment Removes refuse and debris from drainage channels, storm drains, streets, and alleys Prepares daily report and activity logs Deposits asphalt onto surface to be covered and rake and roll asphalt Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required Supervisory Responsibilities: None Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Common construction tools, heavy equipment such as; Roller/Sheep foot, Flat Wheel, Pneumatic (over 4,000 lbs.), Crack Sealer, Emergency Barricade Truck, Oil Distributors (2000 or over), Front-End Loader/Backhoe (construction), Wheel Loader (3cy or over), Patch Truck, Large Sweeper, Herbicide Truck, Dump Truck (10 & 14 yards) Posture: Frequent standing, walking, climbing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent walking, climbing; grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (80+ pounds) frequently Environment: Work outside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, rain, wind, dust, dirt, sewage, water, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, and vibration; work around moving objects or vehicles; insects, rodents, may work alone, regular exposure to high, fast moving mechanical parts Specific Physical Demands: Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, occasional prolonged or irregular hours This document describes the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned or skills that may be required.

Requirements
