The Street Cleaner III performs a combination of advanced-level street cleaning, mowing, debris removal, and mechanical maintenance duties for the City. This role involves leading small crews in the field, operating heavy and small equipment, and conducting both preventative and corrective repairs on City-owned small engine equipment. Exercises independent judgment and initiative to perform both field operations and mechanical duties. Operates trucks, trailers, riding mowers, push mowers, weed eaters, blowers, toros, and sweepers for mowing, debris cleanup, and vegetation control on streets, medians, ditches, sidewalks, and public areas. Performs heavy manual labor such as clearing brush, trimming trees, and removing litter from public spaces. Inspects work areas for obstacles (e.g., manhole covers, rocks, gas lines) and marks them for safety. Assists in interdepartmental coordination for street and landscape projects. Responds to and resolves citizen requests or complaints professionally. Performs diagnostic inspections and repairs on small engines such as mowers, weed eaters, blowers, chainsaws, generators, and pumps. Conducts major and minor repairs including tune-ups, engine overhauls, carburetor cleaning, and part replacements. Plans repair work, determines necessary parts and tools, and documents all maintenance activity in the City's system. Runs parts using a City vehicle and coordinates repairs with the fleet maintenance team. Performs preventive maintenance (oil changes, fluid checks, lubrication) on both small and large field equipment. Operates shop tools and diagnostic equipment safely and efficiently. Performs other duties as assigned. Special projects as needed. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy.
