Strategy and Planning Manager

Block
6d$153,000 - $270,000

About The Position

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block. The Role The Strategy & Planning team, part of Block's Business Operations function, helps set the company's strategic direction and builds the systems, processes, and rhythms that drive operational excellence. We partner closely with senior leadership to translate complex goals into coordinated action, enabling Block to scale and execute its mission of economic empowerment. As a senior Individual Contributor on the Strategy & Planning team, you will serve as a strategic thought partner to executives and senior leadership, owning company-wide planning, evolving critical operating rhythms, and driving the decisions that shape Block's strategic direction and investments.

Requirements

  • 7-9+ years working in corporate strategy, business operations, or consulting roles, with experience operating in complex, cross-functional environments at scale (Investment Banking / Corporate Finance experience welcome, but not sufficient on its own)
  • Proven track record owning (not just supporting) company-wide planning, goal setting, prioritization, and resource allocation processes, with clear accountability for outcomes
  • Hands-on experience using AI to meaningfully change and automate how work gets done–scaling insight, improving efficiency, or building repeatable systems
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and align senior leaders through judgment, data, and clear communication in ambiguous or high-stakes environments
  • Comfort operating with VP, SVP, or C-suite stakeholders, including navigating disagreement and tradeoffs
  • Exceptional ability to synthesize complex data in SQL or Excel into clear, decision-ready insights in Google Slides, Figma, or Mode Dashboards—not just analysis
  • Demonstrated knowledge and curiosity about Block’s products, ecosystem, and mission of economic empowerment

Responsibilities

  • Own, design, and continuously evolve Block's company-wide strategic planning and goal-setting processes
  • Build and scale tools and resources to improve company-wide processes and operating rhythms (e.g., business reviews, exec meetings, board updates, all-hands)
  • Translate strategic priorities into a sustainable operating model, leveraging automation and tooling to create consistent execution at scale
  • Act as a cross-function thought-partner with senior leaders across Finance, Strategy, Biz Ops, People, and Product to drive alignment, deliver projects, and unblock critical decisions
  • Deliver decision-ready analysis, frameworks, and recommendations that determine resource allocation and headcount strategy
  • Own executive-level communication of Block's strategy and progress, crafting clear, compelling narratives for the Board, investors, leadership, and employees
  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize new business opportunities and risks; develop business cases and ensure smooth execution of approved initiatives
  • Distill complex, ambiguous concepts into clear, actionable stories that drive understanding, alignment, and action

  • Remote work
  • medical insurance
  • flexible time off
  • retirement savings plans
  • modern family planning
