Job Description: Position Description: Barry-Wehmiller has begun recruitment for a Commodity Leader for our Enterprise team. This position is targeting a graduate of our Future Leaders Program. This position will be the first of three development assignments in Supply Chain at various levels and with various platforms or division of Barry-Wehmiller. Each assignment will last approximately nine to 12 months. Each position will incorporate one project assignment and two functional assignments in order to ensure broad exposure and experience. As part of our transformational Supply Chain journey, we are establishing a global, centralized supply chain that supports the entire Barry-Wehmiller Enterprise. This role will be crucial in helping us to better unlock the power of our scale, drive significant cost savings, standardize procurement processes and contracts, as well as share best practices across our network of manufacturing facilities. This position will focus on two categories of Make-to-Print and Transportation . We are looking for talent who can bring a new style of supply chain thinking to an industry-leading, privately held $3 billion company. Requirements

  • 10 years sourcing/purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment with a strong working knowledge of domestic and international supply chain principles, MRP related operations, inventory replenishment strategies, financial analysis, business intelligence, and effective business processes across all functions.
  • Lean Manufacturing, DMF, and/or Six Sigma desired, specifically regarding the purchasing, material and manufacturing areas.
  • Strong communication skills to partner effectively with suppliers, engineering, quality, manufacturing personnel and peers in a dynamic team environment.
  • Strong influencer.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, especially in an operations environment. Highly organized and utilizes strong organizational and follow up skills.
  • Experience in a global manufacturing structure, with experience in multi-business/entity; ideally exposed to a complex machine assembly environment. Experience in working across business units within a “matrixed” organization.
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical, negotiating, and interpersonal skills. A demonstrated ability to work with all levels of leadership, collaboratively driving decisions.
  • Takes leadership role in problem solving, cost reductions, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success with cost reductions (TCO model).
  • Ability to read technical drawings.
  • High ethical standards.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Masters Degree or Equivalent. Focus in Supply Chain or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the procurement strategy of components and services for key purchase categories, identifying and driving cost reductions and synergies among the BWG commodity group.
  • Co-create rotation / experience plan for this role that would create exposure to diverse BW companies and roles within the Supply Chain function, based on most important business needs.
  • Manage the overall relationship with suppliers & develop the road map with strategic suppliers.
  • Negotiate & implement long term agreements with strategic suppliers across BWG.
  • Drive and ensure suppliers are held accountable for meeting continuous improvement initiatives from a strategic perspective including lead time reduction, flexibility to schedules, quality improvement, inventory reduction and cost reduction on year over year basis.
  • Develop cost baseline for commodity & inflation forecasts for the machined commodity.
  • Financial analysis of cost changes and pricing implications.
  • Ensure supplier strategy has the capacity to enable continuity of supply and ability to provide required technical capability as required by the business units.
  • Evaluate & select new suppliers as they strategically apply across the business units. Conduct & update key supplier assessments.
  • Rationalize/optimize the commodities’ preferred supply base, balancing between cost and risk. Develop appropriate supplier strategies to leverage global volume on families of “like” parts to consolidate spend.
  • Set the “menu” for suppliers for BWG new Product launch, Supplier Transitions & Engineering Change Management processes.
  • Communicate and collaborate with global BWG Supply Chain Leadership, business unit Procurement teams and other Leadership to identify opportunities for regional & LCC sourcing, and additional cost savings.
  • Deliver Productivity and Working Capital Objectives. Present potential savings opportunities to procurement, engineering, manufacturing, and leadership team based on commodity data analysis.
  • Understand and monitor current commodity market conditions/trends. Develop technologies, supply chain capacity / capability, product knowledge, customer requirements and proactively communicate supply/demand challenges.
  • Establish a strong network and foster collaboration with customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
  • Analyze specifications, quality, quantity and delivery requirements for assigned highly complex product category or supply base; determine best supply source; survey markets for new supply sources; recommend and source substitute items if product is not available
  • Develop short and long-range purchasing strategies in order right-size the supply base, reduce cost, and improve service to internal customers
  • Establish strong, collaborative relationships with selected suppliers; partner on joint continuous improvement initiatives
  • Negotiate and create highly complex key supplier contracts based on competence, competitive standing, and alignment with company vision; maintain cost control and drive cost reduction
  • Prepare, analyze, evaluate and issue quotations ensuring all purchasing policy and objectives are met across sites; complete purchase transactions ensuring that all deliverables are met both locally and/or divisionally
  • Own sourcing strategy and value analysis of risk management vs. spend
  • Responsible for site inventory levels, product rejects and chargebacks
  • Attend/facilitate daily cross-functional team meetings and support parts flow to operations; provides direction; responsible for resolution of escalated supplier issues
  • Evaluate suppliers against quarterly supplier scorecard; perform site visits, collect and analyze internal metric data; require compliance to all performance parameters for which supplier is accountable
  • Maintain updated economic and business condition knowledge that may affect purchasing strategy; anticipate and recommend plan to mitigate risk due to changing conditions; consult with senior management to make decisions
  • Lead and/or actively participate in cross-functional and key projects such as e-commerce, product development, spend/cost reduction analysis, etc.
  • Prepare reports, value analysis studies and perform other procurement duties
  • Prepare and teach standard work procedures
  • Lead, coach, guide less experienced team members
  • Assist supply chain leadership in daily operations as requested; may assume responsibility for department operation in absence of supervisor
