About The Position

As the Strategic Communications Intern for the UW–Madison School of Nursing, you will work closely with the Communications and Media Relations Strategist, as well as the School of Nursing’s Marketing and Communications team, to utilize your creative storyteller and journalistic writing skills. You’ll play a role in our editorial cycle and will have the opportunity to weave together various stories, articles, and profiles to help show the broad impact of Badger nursing students, faculty, staff, and alumni. In addition, you will gain experience editing and proofreading articles, building biographical profiles, crafting human interest stories, and creating feature articles. Overall, you will gain career-building, real-world experience working on various strategic communications efforts. The work you will do in this role will help you refine and build upon your existing skills, including writing, editing, interviewing, and subject matter research. This position will allow you to contribute to various strategic communications production processes from beginning to end so you can have portfolio-ready work samples to show future employers. While this position will focus primarily on writing, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in additional areas of strategic communications to help bolster your skill sets. If you have an interest in learning about layout, graphic design, photography, or video capture/editing, we can integrate opportunities into your work assignments to help you refine those skills. In this role, you will work both independently, as well as in a hybrid team setting, collaborating with a small creative team to develop cohesive content for web and print. Want to pitch and plan new creative content and story ideas? In this role, interns who take initiative to develop unique, original content are highly encouraged to think outside of the box and take content to the next level. You will be allowed opportunities to grow and expand your skill set, step outside of your comfort zone, and expand your comfortable limits. This position will be challenging, but rewarding, all while offering the chance to gain valuable experience working in a professional but fun work environment. If this sounds like a position where you think you would grow and thrive, we encourage you to apply and look forward to reading your application!
