About The Position

The mission of the Straightener is to mechanically correct non-conforming dimensions of metal castings to meet dimensional tolerances and customer specifications. This role involves straightening both large and small parts, requiring the ability to measure, inspect, and determine effective repair methods. The Straightener will use various tools and processes, including manual tools, power presses, and hot straightening, and will collaborate with Dimensional Inspectors and Engineering personnel to resolve dimensional problems. The position also includes performing in-process and final dimensional checks and ensuring casting acceptance.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow specifications on Tech Cards, blueprints, and drawings.
  • Ability to read dimensional tools.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems.
  • Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing fifty to eighty pounds and occasionally up to one hundred pounds.
  • Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes and other elements for extended periods of time.
  • Completion of PCC's Forklift Driving Safety Certification Training may be required.
  • For LSBO, requires Straightener to obtain Dimensional Inspection Certification after 6 months on the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Casting straightening skills or closely related metal straightening/fabricating skills.
  • An equivalent amount of classroom training and work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Measure and inspect castings to verify appropriate tolerances and identify discrepant tolerances; check tech cards and CMM dimensional reports; may prestraighten casting prior to dimensional check.
  • Determine the most effective method of making straightening repairs to castings.
  • Straighten castings using manual tools, profile templates and power presses; preheat castings before placing in press; round parts with power or manual tools.
  • Straighten castings using the hot straightening process; fixture parts for heat treat (TBO only).
  • Create custom press blocks and tools as needed.
  • Work closely with Dimensional Inspectors and Engineering personnel to resolve dimensional problems.
  • Perform in-process dimensional checks.
  • Perform final dimensional checks using inspection fixtures, templates, gauges, micrometers, calipers and other measuring devices.
  • Visually inspect castings for discontinuity.
  • Complete logs, process router forms, and records.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Identify and report safety problems.
  • Perform other tasks as directed.
