About The Position

The Darkroom Operator is responsible for providing film for radiographers and operating darkroom process equipment to develop exposed film for evaluation. This role involves accurately filling film orders, which includes reviewing film orders, loading and unloading cassettes, cutting and taping special film, and maintaining film inventory records. The operator is also responsible for darkroom processing, ensuring proper chemistry in the processor by testing chemical replenishment rates, water and chemical temperatures, and processing test film. Minor cleaning of the processor, removing jammed film, and monitoring darkroom temperature levels are also part of the processing duties. A critical aspect of the role is safety, requiring adherence to plant and department safety rules, safe operation of equipment and tools, and identifying and reporting safety problems. The position also entails maintaining logs and records and meeting production and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, interpret and follow instructions on work orders, Quality Control Manuals, and other technical instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition and subtraction).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, and in a team.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide film for radiographers and operate darkroom process equipment to develop exposed film for evaluation.
  • Accurately fill film orders requested by radiographers.
  • Review film orders, including size, type and number of cassettes.
  • Load film into cassettes; put cassettes in pass box when completed; unload cassettes.
  • Cut and tape special film.
  • Maintain film inventory records; order film or notify supervisor to order film.
  • Maintain film cassettes; replace or repair worn cassettes.
  • Process film and maintain proper chemistry in processor.
  • Test chemical replenishment rates, and water and/or chemical temperatures to assure compliance with specifications; accurately record results.
  • Process test film to assure proper operation and processing time of industrial processor.
  • Perform minor cleaning of processor.
  • Remove jammed film from processor as needed.
  • Monitor darkroom temperature levels.
  • Take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Identify and report safety problems.
  • Maintain logs and records.
  • Meet all production and quality standards.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
