Job Summary: The STRAIGHTENER APPRENTICE will learn how to inspect forgings and how to use a variety of hand tools, presses, and devices to straighten the forgings according to their specifications. On-the-job training will be provided for this position.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of High School or equivalent.
  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
  • In compliance with ITAR regulations, must be a US Citizen or US Person.
  • Basic Math (addition, subtraction, decimal points, tolerance).
  • Basic English (reading, writing, verbal and comprehend).
  • Must be able to work overtime when required to meet operational deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using measuring tools strongly desired.
  • Basic blueprint reading skills strongly preferred.
  • Ability to operate forklift a plus.
  • Microsoft Office skills a plus.
  • Aluminum heat treating experience and certification a plus.
  • Aluminum hardness and conductivity testing and certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Wear proper Personal Protection Equipment at the work area all the time.
  • Work safe and maintain an organized, lean work environment.
  • Strong commitment to good attendance and being on time as it is critical to meet production needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Assure quality and production requirements are met, as per the job-specific travelers.
  • Participate in total quality management projects to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Participate in LEAN manufacturing and SPC activities as required.
  • Ensure adherence to APP’s policies and procedures, including our code of conduct and ethics policy, product safety, employee safety and cultural beliefs.
  • Ensure adherence to all process specifications.
  • Support the Plant quality system goals / improvements & productivity goals / improvements within the scope of the job.
  • Learn how to read blueprints.
  • Learn to use tools, such as straight edges, protractors, dial indicators, micrometers, and height gauges, to check the dimensions, curves and angles of parts.
  • Learn to straighten small forgings with hand tools such as mallets, hammers, and holding fixtures.
  • Learn to set up and operate presses to straighten large forgings.
  • Learn to maintain freezer logbook.
  • Perform any other duties not mentioned above when instructed to do so by the APP leadership.
