About The Position

Help protect our local waterways and keep our community safe and healthy. In this role, you'll put your environmental skills to work by carrying out the City's stormwater plan and ensuring we meet state and federal water-quality standards. Your days will be a mix of fieldwork and outreach-testing water during rain events, inspecting stormwater systems, tracking down pollution sources, and meeting with residents, contractors, and City staff to share practical solutions. You'll also create reports, maps, and educational materials, and keep our data organized so we can stay ahead of compliance requirements. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys both outdoor work and community engagement, all while making a visible difference for our environment.

Requirements

  • An associate or bachelor's degree in environmental science, Natural Resources Science/Management, Engineering, GIS or closely related field
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willingness to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with performing inspections of Stormwater Control Measures (SCMs)
  • experience and/or education in Environmental Science, Pollution Prevention, Water Quality monitoring, and/or Stormwater Management
  • Experience with ESRI Arc-GIS software for data compilation, analysis, reporting, and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental stormwater rules and regulations, including NPDES Phase II requirements and stormwater best management practices
  • Ability to read public improvement plans, site plans, and topographic maps
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining clear, concise records and reports
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with public officials, outside agencies, City staff, and the general public
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with the public
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities
  • Experience creating and delivering public presentations
  • Ability to help design and implement effective public outreach, education, and training programs
  • Strong analytical skills to review diverse project information and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Capability to work independently under general direction

Responsibilities

  • Implement and track all components of the City's stormwater plan and NPDES Phase II Stormwater Permit.
  • Assess City services for compliance with NPDES Phase II Stormwater Rules and recommend changes to meet requirements.
  • Develop and deliver public education and outreach programs, including creating targeted materials and leading training sessions for homeowners, City staff, contractors, engineers, and developers.
  • Conduct wet-weather and TMDL water sampling throughout the year in varying weather conditions.
  • Perform dry-weather screening by visiting stormwater outfall sites and testing water samples.
  • Investigate pollution sources in storm sewers through construction plan review, on-site inspections, and coordination with City departments for repairs or infrastructure improvements.
  • Inspect City facilities for compliance with individual stormwater permits and document findings or required corrective actions.
  • Inspect and analyze stormwater control devices to ensure proper function and compliance.
  • Create and maintain computerized files and databases, and perform analyses using a variety of software tools.
  • Prepare reports, diagrams, and maps to document findings and support program needs.
  • Respond to citizen complaints and advise on solutions to address concerns.
  • Follow OSHA and City safety standards and policies in all work activities.
