About The Position

Responsible for receiving, storing, issuing, and safeguarding materials, tools, equipment, and spare parts used in utility operations. This includes managing inventory levels, ensuring accurate records, and supporting maintenance and operations teams with timely and efficient material supply. Regularly operates equipment for transporting, loading and unloading all types of material. Provides departmental support for Electric, Water, Gas, Fiber, etc.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Two (2) years experience in shipping, receiving or inventory control required.
• Good math skills.
• Valid Drivers License.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a warehouse environment is preferred.
• ERP experienced preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receives incoming shipments of materials. Inspects materials for damages and verifies quantities in compliance with purchase orders. Completes receiving documentation and enters items into inventory system.
• Follows procedures to maintain inventory accuracy goal. Performs daily cycle counts and reconciles differences.
• Issues proper material to crews and contractors in a timely manner and documents the transactions, including utilizing barcode scanners to key in inventory transactions that updates the computer system.
• Verifies that Material Returned to Stock (MRS) is of good quality, has proper identification prior to returning to inventory.
• Maintains shelves and rack identification for material and sees that the material is labeled properly and that the material is stored in a safe manner.
• Operates equipment necessary for moving a wide variety of material. Equipment includes multiple size gas and diesel forklifts (up to a 36,000 lb. lifting capacity), multiple size and style cranes (up to 5 ton lifting capacity), and backhoes.
• Makes deliveries to job sites as required, during regular hours, on-call hours and storm situations, using up to a F-550 diesel flatbed truck- occasionally hauling wire trailers or dual axle equipment trailers.
• Maintains and monitors the security of the storeroom and yard.
• Sorts waste materials by type and reclaims or stores in an orderly fashion pending disposal action, which includes cleaning and maintaining scrap and waste container areas.
• Controls tool usage by complying with the tool policy approved by Huntsville Utilities management.
• Responsible for ensuring warehouse and yard areas and clean, organized and in compliance with safety standards. Ensures trucks and equipment are kept clean and maintained.
• Performs job duties in a safe and efficient manner and follows all safety rules and regulations. Reports any safety hazards or unsafe conditions to the Stores Crew Leader/Supervisor.
• Assists crews in loading/unloading heavy material.
• Other duties as assigned.
