About The Position

The Steward is responsible for the vessel’s daily service to guests and maintaining the cleanliness of guest cabins, corridors, and public areas, consistent with the company standards and goals of providing excellent service. The steward also participates in evening entertainment activities as directed by the Hotel Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Current TAPs card (Training for Alcohol Professionals).
  • Current Alaska Food Worker Card issued by DEC.
  • Must be experienced at multi-tasking and remain flexible in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
  • Valid US driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Must pass a security background check and DOT drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in tourism and/or cruise industries.
  • Experience in the culinary and/or hospitality industries.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for friendly, courteous, and gracious service to all guests
  • Handles queries, concerns, and special requests from guests.
  • Setting tables, preparing beverages for meal service, meal service and dining room and galley cleanup.
  • Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure timely and accurate food delivery.
  • Assist with inventory for weekly orders.
  • Required to learn and understand daily menus and types of seafood served each day.
  • Ensure guests are seated promptly and efficiently.
  • Assist with daily setup for social hour in the lounge, including appetizer setup and delivery, order-taking and beverage delivery to guests.
  • Assist bartender in lounge cleanup after dinner service begins. Assist the bartender with wine service during dinner.
  • Required to learn the Beverage menu served each day.
  • Provide cabin services, including daily cleaning and turndown service, maintaining cabin and bathroom supplies, and distributing guest amenities such as turn-down chocolates, parcels, gifts, paperwork, etc.
  • Conduct regular inspections of cabins and public areas including lounges, dining areas, restrooms and decks to guarantee cleanliness and hygiene, adhering to company standards.
  • Complete turn of all cabins and common areas at end of cruise in preparation for next cruise.
  • Assist with the baggage handling, laundry, stores, and garbage.
  • Assist with turn-day linen operations. Ensure the proper collection, laundering, and distribution of linens. Organize and prepare clean linen bags for cabin setups during turn days.
  • Monitor and maintain housekeeping supplies, equipment, and linens. Communicate with the Hotel Manager to ensure timely restocking.
  • Promptly elevate guest complaints or feedback to ship-board supervisory team.
  • Follow prescribed hours set forth by the vessel’s daily roster.
  • Holds a position on the Vessel’s Emergency Station Bill.
  • Maintain awareness of basic safety rules, workplace safety, and respect for the environment.
  • Commit to understanding geography and vessel itinerary.
  • Special projects may be assigned as required by the business.
