Job Purpose To effectively and efficiently assure that all dental instruments and equipment is properly sterilized, instrument trays are properly set up, operatories are set-up prior to, and cleaned after use. .

Requirements

  • Excellent customer/patient service and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand information and follow instructions for the proper handling of tools, instruments, and supplies.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out details written or verbally instructed.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to work in fast paced, patient-focused environment.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Must be aware of and follow state specific rules and protocols.
  • Listening skills. Sterilization Technician must be able to listen and follow directions from a supervisor.
  • Organizational skills. Sterilization Technician should have excellent organizational skills; ensure that all tools, instruments and supplies are available and properly set up to enhance the efficiency of the dentist and other clinical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure treatment rooms are cleaned prior to the patient being seating and cleaned after the dental services have been provided.
  • Sterilize and disinfect all instruments and dental equipment
  • Set up instrument trays and prepare materials to be used for the scheduled dental procedure(s).
  • Notify Office Manager of equipment trouble or general safety concerns.
  • Attend and participate in morning huddles and regular office meetings.
  • Attend continuing education and training seminars as scheduled.
  • Understand and follow HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality.
  • Understand and follow state and Federal OSHA laws, infection control, safety standards in the dental office and operatory, including wearing personal protective (PPE) barriers such as gloves, disposable gowns, and eye wear; disinfecting and sterilizing instruments and treatment areas; and disposing properly of contaminated or bio-hazardous waste/materials.
  • Learn and follow Familia Dental’s administrative and operational procedures.
  • Review and follow Employee Handbook to ensure consistent standards.
  • Maintain professional working environment within office team.
  • Clean and properly dispose of trash, Sharps, and medical waste.
  • Additional delegable duties as allowed by state.
