About The Position

Under the supervision and/or direction of the Manager of Sterile Processing or designee, processes (from decontamination to terminal sterilization) and distributes all reusable supplies and equipment throughout the hospital.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required.
• Experience within the past two (2) years in instrument processing or sterile technique required, or successful completion of a sterile processing or surgical technologist program, or successful completion of recognized online sterile processing modules or classes within six months of hire or transfer date.
• Certification by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) is required within 18 months of hire.
• Annually must complete 10 hours of continuing education.

Nice To Haves

• Formal training in sterile processing or surgical technology preferred.
• Computer literacy preferred.

Responsibilities

• Recognizes and responds to priority in the patient care process.
• Performs duties accurately, recognizing their importance and relationship to patient care.
• Maintains flexibility in hours of work and changes in assignments.
• Participates in cross-training as assigned.
• Attends 80% of all staff meetings.
• Processes incoming implant instruments/trays from vendors and distributes for scheduled cases. Reprocesses same after completion of case and makes ready for shipment/pick-up.
• Utilizes proper body mechanics to prevent injury to self and others.
• Facilitates and assists with new employee orientation.
