Are you a student looking to gain hands-on experience in sterile processing while continuing your education? At UPMC Somerset, you’ll play a critical role in patient safety and surgical success. This position offers flexible scheduling to work around your school commitments and includes a rotating 24-hour weekend call requirement for added experience. What You’ll Do: In this role, you’ll work under the guidance of experienced professionals and learn the essential skills needed for sterile processing. You will: Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and equipment. Prepare and assemble surgical trays following established listings for issue, storage, or further processing. Maintain a working knowledge of all decontamination and sterilization equipment and troubleshoot as needed. Monitor, read, and document sterilizer parameters to ensure proper function. Assess supplies for surgical procedures and set up case carts. Maintain inventory and ensure instruments and patient care equipment are properly cleaned and reassembled. Follow infection control and safety protocols at all times. Participate in performance improvement activities and demonstrate strong communication skills.
