GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB: Responsible for maintaining supplies, equipment and inventory to support current and new surgical services lines. Coordinates processes with sterile processing personnel and operating room staff to provide instruments and supplies for use in a safe and timely manner to meet surgical and other patient care needs within the hospital. The Sterile Processing Manager reports directly to the Surgical Service Director.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) BA/BS preferred.
  • Related hospital experience of minimum of 1 year in care of instruments, equipment or supplies preferred.
  • CBSPD /CRCST Certification or equivalent, required or within 1yr of hire
  • Certification CBSPD Certification Board for sterile processing or Distribution Supervisor Certified CRCST; member of ISHCSMM International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain high standards of quality and customer service.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
  • Break down and decontaminate instruments following procedure according to protocols.
  • Set up trays and prepare for sterilization.
  • Sterilize instruments and supplies according to Operating Room, Central Processing and manufacturer protocols and standards.
  • Prepares packages and autoclaves items in accordance with standard policies.
  • Monitors sterilization process and maintains daily, permanent record of sterilization parameters according to hospital protocols and local, state, AAMI, AORN and IAHCSMM. Standards.
  • Responsible for biological testing, quality control, quality improvement and ensuring national standards.
  • Operate sterilizing and decontamination units using different agents to include steam, hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid and glutaraldehyde.
  • Maintains a clean environment by following daily cleaning protocol.
  • Maintains and monitors inventory of supplies and instruments.
  • Manages the SPD personnel and department processes
  • Prepares and issues stock in accordance with the department
  • Orients and mentors new and existing staff members.
  • Evaluate all SPD staff members.
  • Responsible for maintaining SPD staff competencies annually.
  • Work closely with the OR Clinical Material Management Coordinator to ensure all supplies and equipment are available when needed.
  • Maintain all Capital equipment purchases requisitions.
  • Maintain preference cards.
