About The Position

The Sterile Processing Manager coordinates the daily activities of the Sterile Processing Department. This role involves managing instrument ordering, maintenance, and inventory, as well as providing guidance on quality initiatives and driving improvement plans based on metrics and quality indicators. The manager is also responsible for overseeing regulatory compliance and ensuring correct procedures are followed for decontamination and sterilization, reporting to the infection control representative. The position requires adapting behavior to specific patient populations, accurately documenting and monitoring reusable supplies, instruments, procedure trays, and sterile linen, and verifying equipment functionality. Additionally, the manager sets goals, provides coaching and feedback, develops talent, promotes a collaborative work environment, manages conflict, conducts performance reviews, and handles administrative HR functions like timecard approval and scheduling. Compliance with company policies, labor laws, and safety regulations is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Certification required from either International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management or The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years progressive supervisory or lead experience in an acute care Sterile Processing Department preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages instrument ordering, maintenance, and inventory.
  • Provides guidance over quality initiatives and drives improvement plans concentrating on metrics and quality indicators.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Accurately documents and monitors accuracy of others as outlined by regulatory agencies for reusable supplies, instruments and procedure trays and sterile linen.
  • Responsible for ensuring correct procedures are followed throughout the facility pertaining to decontamination and sterilization which is reported to the infection control representative.
  • Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement
  • Set clear goals and expectations; provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance reviews.
  • Develop talent through mentoring, training, and career development initiatives.
  • Promote a collaborative and engaging work environment that aligns with company values.
  • Manage conflict and make timely decisions to maintain team focus and performance.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and development conversations.
  • Approve timecards, schedules, time-off requests, and other administrative HR functions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, labor laws, and safety regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned.
