About The Position

The STEM Teacher will increase the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction through observation and feedback, lesson-modeling, co-teaching, mentoring, and facilitating academic reflection. The coach will assist in aligning instruction with best practices in the integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics across content areas to meet the needs of all students. Under limited supervision, plans and presents innovative, developmentally appropriate opportunities for students to learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to the development of students' academic abilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, with a minimum of five years of experience.
  • Expertise related to STEM content and pedagogy.
  • Valid South Carolina Teacher’s certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in instructional planning and expand teachers’ use of a variety of resources to provide high-quality STEM learning opportunities.
  • Create and monitor specific, measurable instructional goals.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Plans and prepares lesson plans and related activities for individual students or assigned classes.
  • Grades work completed by students; maintains accurate records of test scores / grades.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Reports suspected learning and other disabilities to District specialist(s) as appropriate.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and up-to-date records as required by law, District policy and administrative regulation.
  • Assists the school administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Monitors the activities/behavior of the student body as scheduled to ensure student safety and well-being.
  • Assists individual students in need of special attention.
  • Supervises the work of teaching assistants and/or volunteers.
  • Maintains positive relationships with parents; schedules and conducts parent-teacher conferences; facilitates parent education workshops and conducts home visits as necessary.
  • Maintains inventory of classroom supplies and equipment; prepares supply requisitions as needed.
  • Coordinates and/or participates in special programs, projects or events as required; serves as adviser to student organizations, staffs and committees as appropriate.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on various staff committees as required.
  • Participates in staff in-service training and continuing education as required.
  • Makes arrangements for substitute instructors as needed.
  • Operates various types of machinery and equipment including a computer, printer, copier, laminating machine, fax machine, audio-visual equipment, tape player, various curriculum-specific equipment or instruments, etc.
  • Provide training on formative assessment administration based on the integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
  • Ensure that student achievement data is routinely collected, reported, and used to drive instructional decisions at the school- and classroom-level, while offering feedback and reflection.
  • Implement intensive professional development on high-quality instructional practices in STEM education.
  • Analyze data from a district, school, grade-level, classroom and individual student perspective.
  • Model continuous learning, maintain current progress, and serve as a thoughtful resource for STEM advancement in the school.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and utilize a variety of concrete variables in situations containing only limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in instructional programs related to high-quality STEM instructional practices.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on high-quality STEM instructional practices reflecting the needs and abilities of all students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents with skills in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to perform duties in compliance and accordance with all IDOE requirements, district requirements, and Board of Trustees policies.
  • Ability to work successfully with a variety of personnel in the organization, including building principals, teachers, and students.
