Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biological science or related area preferred or comparable experience.
  • Current Florida Medical Technologist license or ASCP Certification as a Technologist in at least one of the following: Hematology, Immunohematology, Serology.
  • Proficiency in using sterile technique required.
  • Analytical skill required.
  • Computer operational skills using personal computer, laboratory system or other hospital system preferred.
  • May be required to be available during 'off' hours for emergency call back.
  • May be required to work weekends, holidays, and other shifts.
  • Temporary or current license as a State of Florida Clinical Laboratory Technician.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in Stem Cell Processing and cell culturing preferred, but experience in Blood Banking or HLA Typing acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Clinical Bone Marrow Transplant Program through demonstration of a superior level of technical proficiency, critical thinking, and problem solving in such areas as processing and cryopreservation of hematopoietic progenitor stem cells, interpretation of red blood cell group antigens, complex antibody identifications and compatibility.
  • Assist in procurement of hematopoietic progenitor cells (bone marrow, apheresis)
  • Verify appropriate donor Human Leukocyte Antigen (LHA) results
  • Interacts with physicians regarding cell doses for transplants
  • Participate in quality assurance and accreditation initiatives
  • Collaborate with researchers developing new procedures
  • Provides technical support to achieve the organization's mission of excellent patient care and nursing's vision of setting a new standard of excellence in autonomous and accountable nursing practice committed to patient advocacy and innovative patient care in a climate of trust and collaboration.
