Steelworks Automation Control Room Engineer Be part of the transformation of steel. In our control room, you’ll safeguard flow, stability, and safety—advancing U. S. Steel’s journey toward a 2050 net‑zero future while supporting industries from automotive to energy. Your impact You will coordinate critical blast furnace operations from a centralized environment, maintain seamless communication across platforms, and solve control-system challenges at the source—electrical, logic, or component level.

Requirements

  • 2‑year technical degree in electronics, electrical engineering, or computers.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing plant environment.
  • Must pass the written Command Center test.
  • Skilled with voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and common hand tools, including a soldering gun.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor hoisting/charging and stove operation via the remote control center.
  • Troubleshoot, adjust, and document PLC ladder logic; capture all changes on blueprints while partnering with field teams.
  • Ensure continuous network communications among diverse computer systems and platforms.
  • Isolate processor faults to the board/component level; solder precise repairs as needed.
  • Terminate fiber‑optic communications wiring and verify signal integrity.
  • Maintain scales, scale displays, and sonar devices such as radar level detectors.
  • Use combustion theory (oxygen/fuel ratios) to improve thermal efficiency and process control.
  • Operate with AC/DC drives and motor starters; Allen‑Bradley/GE Fanuc PLCs; Bristol/Emerson Ovation/Avton drive technologies.
