Summary The Steel Shop Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the steel shop fabrication floor. This role ensures safe and efficient shift operations, provides training and direction to employees, and manages material inventory to keep production on track. The Steel Shop Supervisor also serves as the point of communication between the steel shop and other internal departments regarding all steel and rebar activities.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required
  • 3 years of welding experience required; familiarity with AWS welding code D1.1 or D1.4 preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of management or supervisory experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer skills
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents
  • Must be capable of obtaining ASNT-NDT Level II certification within 6 months of start date
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding as needed
  • Must be comfortable working in outdoor conditions that may include inclement weather, dust, and heat
  • Will regularly work in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to loud noise, heavy equipment, and varying temperatures

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and manage completion of assigned steel fabrication tasks within the required timeframe
  • Advise the manager on stock material orders, welding operations and equipment, weld inspection, and finished product delivery
  • Plan and provide daily work assignments to all direct reports
  • Provide training, guidance, and direction to employees at all levels
  • Administer weekly safety toolbox talks
  • Report poor quality workmanship or end product to plant management
  • Address disciplinary issues in accordance with company policy and issue corrective actions as needed
  • Oversee completion of calibrations and fabrication records for all parts and equipment
  • Oversee maintenance of assigned equipment and communicate any issues to plant management
  • Maintain open communication with other internal departments regarding steel and rebar activities
