About The Position

MRC Global serves the oil and gas industry across the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors as well as the chemical and gas distribution market sectors worldwide. Job Purpose The Technical Inside Sales Representative is responsible for delivering business-to-business customer service through the order process of pipe, valves, and fitting products (PVF) . This role will c reat e and/or enter quotes, process customer orders, and resolv e customer issues. Th e Technical Inside Sales Representative will p rovide technical expertise in the sale of specialized product s while maximizing customer value and driving MRC Global strategies for safety, gross margin growth, and financial/operational performance.

Requirements

  • Typically requires o ne (1) or more years’ experience in a dedicated customer-facing role, inside sales, and/or warehouse/shop services.
  • OR recent completion of post-secondary education to include any of the following: Technical/Trade School, associate degree , b achelor’s d egree, preferably with studies in industrial or sales.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in one or more specialized product categories (valve automation, controls , instrumentation & measurement , carbon steel pipes, fittings, & flanges, corrosion-resistant products, gas prod ucts, or steam products).
  • Proficient in the use of computers and MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and advanced knowledge base in MRC Global’s proprietary software t o work efficiently .
  • Ability to communicate and promote ideas and transfer detailed and technical knowledge to others.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Attention to detail, works with a sense of urgency.
  • Executes role with some assistance and supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Develop knowledge of customer accounts to include technical requirements, production volume and schedules, targeted pricing, applicable contract requirements, and competitive analysis.
  • Respond promptly to customer requests for quotes by sourcing products from existing Company inventory or buying them externally.
  • Build quotes that simultaneously create value for the customer and profitability for MRC Global.
  • Utilize MRC Global systems/software to create quotes, locate available products/materials, process customers’ orders, create vendor purchase orders (PO), and perform other tasks related to customer needs.
  • Apply a thorough understanding of MRC Global’s primary product ranges, including pipe, valves, and fittings products, to accurately locate the products requested by the customer.
  • Develop and apply an in-depth understanding of the market for individual product categories, price products to concurrently maximize margins while winning bids.
  • Verify the on-time shipping/delivery status of pending inbound and outbound shipments; communicate status proactively with the customer and adjust product sourcing efforts if needed.
  • Promptly problem-solve and resolve the most common customer/order challenges by l isten ing to customers’ needs and concerns .
  • Validate that the product(s) specified in customers’ quote requests are permitted per their respective approved manufacturer’s list (AML) or other customer-provided specifications.
  • Reference customer processing guides and other tools/resources to maintain familiarity with customer preferences/processes; consult with the manager, other MRC Global departments, and suppliers as necessary to create the best possible customer experience.
  • Service next-level customer needs, including orders involving externally sourced labor, return material authorizations (RMA), purchase order changes, and orders involving special invoicing needs.
