About The Position

This position exists to provide vacation and sick time relief for regularly scheduled operators. The hours of work will vary and a 1B or above operator’s license is required.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid steam engineer’s license
  • Minnesota 1st class “B” Engineers license or higher is required.
  • Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.
  • This position requires a valid, applicable driver’s license, as well as a DVS records check with an acceptable rating.
  • Employees must have an active, valid, and, applicable driver’s license if they drive a vehicle on state business.
  • Incumbent must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds, twist and bend, climb step ladders, climb ships ladders, and be able to service overhead equipment.
  • Must have the ability to manipulate small parts and use hand and power tools.
  • As part of this work the incumbent must be able to align parts and install fasteners such as screws, bolts, nuts, and clamps.
  • Incumbent must be able to grip, lift, and manipulate moderately heavy objects such as electric motors, metal guards, and metal housings.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years of experience in a related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a high-pressure boiler plant and central chiller plant.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep and maintain records and logs and write reports.
  • Demonstrated, thorough knowledge of all boiler and pressure vessel codes as adopted by the State of Minnesota and OSHA, and other recognized safety practices.
  • Ability to understand, discuss, and carryout written and verbal communication with the Chief Engineer pertaining to Utility Plant Problems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
