About The Position

NIKA is hiring for multiple Stationary Engineers who will be responsible for the on-site Project Management of Muirkirk Road Complex (MRC) in Laurel, Maryland! This position is pending per contract award and start date is TBD once approved. Requirements

  • Maryland State First Grade Stationary Engineer License (current, active, and registered with Maryland Board of Engineers)
  • OSHA 10-hour training preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Technical/Trade school training in stationary engineering, HVAC, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 3 years documented experience operating steam boiler plants
  • Experience with 24/7/365 continuous operations
  • Experience with facilities with multiple boiler plants
  • Experience with the following types of equipment: - Steam boilers (fire-tube and water-tube) - Condensate return systems - Steam distribution systems - Water softeners and treatment systems - Deaerators - Fuel oil systems - Natural gas systems - Boiler controls and automation
  • Documented experience on resume with verifiable references
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Clearance Access Card (CAC)
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Nice To Haves

  • Research or laboratory facility experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor boiler plants (MOD-1, MOD-2, BRF) continuously
  • Control and regulate operations of boilers, air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment, turbines, generators, pumps, and compressors
  • Start up, regulate, repair, and shut down equipment per procedures
  • Monitor Building Automation System (BAS) alarms and respond appropriately
  • Provide support to O&M team via two-way radio communication
  • Execute start/stop commands per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Maintain boiler plant operating logs (minimum every 2 hours)
  • Record steam pressure and temperature, feedwater data, fuel consumption, combustion parameters
  • Monitor oxygen and CO levels
  • Perform water chemistry testing and treatment per established procedures
  • Adjust controls to optimize efficiency and maintain parameters
  • Conduct routine inspections of all equipment
  • Identify and report deficiencies immediately
  • Perform minor repairs and adjustments as trained
  • Assist with preventive maintenance activities
  • Respond to facility emergencies
