The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS) - Southbury Training School - is currently recruiting for one (1) full-time 2nd shift Stationary Engineer positions located in Southbury, CT. Position Highlights: PCN 16293 Full-time | 2nd Shift | 75 hours biweekly Week 1: Friday - Tuesday: 2:10pm - 10:30pm | Regular Days Off: Wednesday & Thursday Week 2: Monday - Thursday: 2:10pm - 10:30pm | Regular Days Off: Friday - Sunday However, work schedule flexibility is required to meet the needs of the agency. In your role as a Stationary Engineer, you will have the opportunity to: Inspect boiler room gauges, indicators, charts and records of operation, and the actual operating of the boiler room mechanical equipment and boilers and issues any necessary instructions to subordinate(s); Make various periodic and special tests and checks of facilities and equipment, making necessary adjustments; Maintain and repair mechanical equipment, including tightening loose bearings, packing glands, and bolts, replace wearing rings, replace and repack condenser tubes, renew gaskets, renew valves and stuffing boxes and renew value parts; Inspect operation of, maintain and repair generating equipment, ice machinery, hot water heaters, laundry equipment, pumps, fans, compressors, electronic equipment and other miscellaneous mechanical service equipment; Make or supervise the making of simple boiler water analyses and determine necessary treatment; Calculate and record operating data; Related duties as required; Mission Statement: The mission of the Department of Developmental Services is to partner with the individuals we support and their families, to support lifelong planning and to join with others to create and promote meaningful opportunities for individuals to fully participate as valued members of their communities.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of steam boilers or of significant auxiliary boiler room or power plant equipment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate, maintain and repair boilers, generators and related mechanical equipment
  • interpersonal skills
  • oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to utilize computer software
  • Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and supervises maintenance and repair of boiler and boiler room equipment including feed pumps and fuel injectors or stokers
  • Supervises tending of boiler by others, issuing instructions, inspecting condition of equipment, and checking gauges and operation records
