About The Position

The Stationary Engineer Chief position manages and coordinates all phases of the physical operations at Graham Correctional Center. works on a small team of professional individuals to service the entire facility.  The position serves as a working supervisor, completing and reviewing a variety of daily and monthly information, consults with administrative staff and capital programs unit on large maintenance projects, and plant needs/issues above normal maintenance routines. In addition, they plan and coordinate vocational training and individuals in custody assigned to the Maintenance Department. The ideal candidate would be self-motivated, task oriented, and organized. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires seven (7) years of experience in the operation of a commercial or institutional power plant or as a skilled craftsman in the mechanical or building trades.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least ten (10) years of work experience operating high and/or low-pressure coal, gas and/or oil-fired boilers and appurtenances.
  • Prefers at least ten (10) years of work experience in steam engineering, electrical generation, and distribution.
  • Prefers at least ten (10) years of work experience in refrigeration and air conditioning maintenance and/or repair.
  • Prefers at least ten (10) years of work experience in the repair and construction of buildings and equipment.
  • Prefers at least ten (10) years of work experience working with water and sewage treatment systems.
  • Prefers at least ten (10) years of work experience working with the various chemicals used in boiler systems and other closed systems.
  • Prefers at least ten (10) years of work experience working with public health regulations and building codes.
  • Prefers at least ten (10) years of work experience in the use of tools and equipment used for maintaining power equipment.
  • Prefers at least ten (10) years of work experience diagnosing problems in mechanical, electrical, heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Prefers at least ten (10) years of experience directing the work of employees engaged in the maintenance of mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and coordinates all phases of the physical operations at Graham Correctional Center.
  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Completes and reviews daily operational reports, monthly contract monitoring, maintenance priority lists, safety and sanitation staff minutes, toxic substance inventory sheets, tools inventory sheets, summary of monthly activities and utility bill quarterly usage reports.
  • Consults with administrative staff and capital programs unit on large maintenance projects, physical plant needs and issues above the normal maintenance routines.
  • Plans and coordinates vocational training and individuals in custody assigned to the Maintenance Department in conjunction with respective section supervisors.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
