Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Static Stress Engineer to join our Engineering department based in Wichita, Kansas. Job Summary: As a Static Stress Engineer you will support the development of aircraft structures as a Static Stress analyst. Duties include performing complex static analysis for both metallic and non-metallic parts while working in close collaboration with design and fatigue colleagues to provide quality solutions. Methods include the use of both classical hand calculations and computer techniques to develop high strength to weight ratio structures. Your working environment: Located on the Wichita State University (WSU) innovation campus is Airbus’ first dedicated engineering facility outside of Europe. Your challenges: Autonomously perform complex analyses to verify that structural integrity requirements have been met. Team assignments may include detail part sizing, layout maturation, trade study analysis, weight reduction efforts, certification activity, or in-service support. Document analyses in support of trade studies or detail drawing sign-off for airframe structure. Liaise with Design, Fatigue and other appropriate Airbus departments to come up with optimum design solutions. Accept broad objectives with agreed deadlines and establish the tasks required and how they should be completed. Works independently. Demonstrates a high level of listening and oral skills by leading discussions on issues, solutions, ideas, and status of work. Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Ability to obtain Static Authorizer Technical Signatory. Has obtained and utilizes Static Approver Signatory effectively. Identify and support local improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency through process, methods and tools improvements. Your boarding pass: Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering (Aero, Civil, Mechanical) with a strong curriculum emphasis on structural design and analysis and mechanics of materials is required. 6 years total analysis experience in airframe design/repair programs. Position requires in-depth knowledge of classical and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis methods. Capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment both independently and collectively. Up to ~5 % Domestic and very limited possible international travel, subject to additional based on customer / project requirements Authorized to Work in the US Physical Requirements: Onsite or remote: Onsite a minimum of 90% of the time at the Wichita Engineering office.
