About The Position

THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT ATTEMPT TO LIST ALL OF THE DUTIES THAT ARE OR MAY BE PERFORMED IN THIS POSITION Primary Duties 1. Processes customer tax exemption requests, including required revenue system maintenance, with limited guidance from team lead and/or manager. Investigates tax exemption rules/regulations on more complex scenarios or escalated situations prior to seeking guidance from team lead and/or manager. Maintains exemption certificate files and assists with routine internal audit of records. 2. Maintains tax jurisdiction codes in the revenue system to ensure proper collection of sales tax and franchise fees. Responsible for thorough research and precise documentation of changes needed to billing system table which assigns tax jurisdictions. 3. Reviews and approves customer-initiated sales tax credit requests related to sales tax exemption and/or tax jurisdiction reassignment. Communicates the appropriate tax types to be adjusted within the applicable statute-limited time period to Revenue Management for calculating and processing. 4. Conducts quality control audits of work performed by assigned transaction team. Reviews and analyzes a variety of tax and accounting documents and verifies the accuracy of computations. Serves as a mentor to teammates. Reports findings and recommendations for improvement to manager. 5. Identifies billing system opportunities as needed, presents enhancement recommendations, and methodically tests any resulting system updates which impact tax calculations or performance. 6. Prepares W-9 forms for Atmos vendors as requested. 7. Supports the preparation of sales/use tax returns, franchise fee reports, journal entries, and other miscellaneous state and local tax returns in a timely and accurate manner. 8. Prepares occupational license applications and payments to file in a timely and accurate manner. Maintains records of licenses and follows up on missing/overdue submissions. 9. Supports the property tax return data compilation process and pays ad valorem tax bills, as needed. 10. Prepares and audits tax work papers, schedules, exhibits and summaries necessary to develop and support findings and/or recommendations. 11. Assists in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of tax accounting systems. 12. Communicates with internal and external personnel regarding audits, taxes, and other matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Taxation, or a related field and generally two years' related experience in a customer facing function; or equivalent combination of education and experience in customer service/revenue applications maintenance, accounting, taxation, or related field.
  • Requires the ability to communicate well with internal and external customers both written and verbally in order to obtain and/or provide explanations and/or information.
  • Sought out or assigned to provide guidance, training, or technical assistance to junior level employees.
  • Requires the ability to perform analyses involving ratios, percentages, and simple statistical methods.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of various business computer applications in order to create complex documents, reports or graphics.
  • Proficiency in utilizing the customer information system is recommended.
