About The Position

Implements AWHONN's strategy to improve and promote women’s and newborns’ health and strengthen the nursing profession in states and territories throughout the country. Conducts grassroots outreach, recruit’s volunteers for advocacy, and administers the e-advocacy program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in political science, public health, healthcare management, nursing, or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally in writing.
  • Computer skills and working knowledge of the Internet.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate relationships and work successfully with other organizational units to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to present information verbally and in writing to educate others on key issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain flexible, compromise, manage multiple priorities, and stay highly organized; influence others; work well under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability and versatility to work independently and with a team, as well as being a self-directed problem solver.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking ability.

Responsibilities

  • Draft e-advocacy alerts concerning state and territorial legislation and regulations impacting women’s and newborns’ health and the nursing workforce.
  • Updates and maintains AWHONN’s e-advocacy website for all states and territories.
  • Recruit AWHONN member nurses to represent the association in person and in writing to state government officials, regulatory bodies, and allied organizations to advance the association’s legislative and regulatory agenda.
  • Communicates progress of legislative initiatives to the association membership through reports, updates, newsletter articles, and in-person briefings at association meetings and elsewhere.
  • Works with marketing and communications staff in preparing social media updates concerning legislative and public policy updates.
  • Facilitates communication and networking among AWHONN members; develops tools and resources to encourage member participation in coalition and advocacy activities.
  • Attend Public Policy Committee meetings.
  • Attend and support the Leadership Development Conference.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as appropriate.
