About The Position

Frauenthal Gnotec Inc, a leading Tier 1 automotive supplier, is seeking a highly skilled Stamping Press Technician to support high-speed, high-volume metal stamping operations. This position is responsible for press setup, die integration, troubleshooting, and optimization of progressive and transfer stamping systems to meet demanding automotive production and quality requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in press automation, die protection systems, coil feed equipment, and continuous improvement within a regulated automotive manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or apprenticeship strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive metal stamping (Tier 1 or OEM environment preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of progressive die stamping and high-speed press operations
  • Strong ability to interpret process documentation
  • Proven troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automation systems

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with stamping presses and advanced press monitoring systems
  • Familiarity with PLC diagnostics and sensor-based die protection
  • Forklift and overhead crane certification
  • Exposure to launch support, APQP, and continuous improvement metrics

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete setup and changeover of mechanical and stamping presses ranging from [400–630] tons
  • Install, align, and troubleshoot progressive dies
  • Configure press parameters including tonnage curves, stroke length, shut height, and feed progression
  • Support launch activities for new automotive part programs and engineering changes
  • Set up and maintain coil handling systems including decoilers, straighteners, roll feeds, and loop control
  • Troubleshoot press automation systems.
  • Diagnose and correct issues related to: Press drive systems Hydraulic and pneumatic circuits Feed misalignment and material progression Die-related quality defects (wrinkling, cracking, burrs)
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities to maximize uptime and OEE
  • Collaborate with maintenance and toolroom teams on major repairs and die modifications
  • Conduct first-off and in-process inspections
  • Ensure stamped components meet automotive dimensional and cosmetic specifications
  • Work within Tier 1 quality systems including IATF 16949 and PPAP requirements
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone)
  • Enforce strict compliance with OSHA and plant safety policies, including lockout/tagout and machine guarding
  • Participate in Lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, TPM, Kaizen events)
  • Identify opportunities to reduce scrap, improve throughput, and enhance press reliability
