About The Position

Stage Technicians are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the mobile stage fleet. Stage Technicians work closely as part of a team to ensure that Flyspace’s assets are properly maintained, prepared, and operated to meet client and organizational needs. Work will primarily occur at our company warehouse on Pittsburgh’s Northside, as well as at show locations throughout the region.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass background screening and obtain Act 153 Clearances.
  • Reliable transportation to and from worksites.
  • Ability to tow trailers and operate larger vehicles (e.g., box trucks).
  • Physical ability to lift 50+ pounds, climb ladders (4'-16'), and use scissor or genie lifts.
  • Ability to stand, squat, lift, carry, reach, talk, hear, and see at near and far distances.
  • Ability to adapt quickly, solve problems creatively, and work in high-pressure environments.
  • Excellent time management, punctuality, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and be trained in Flyspace’s systems and protocols.
  • Knowledge of Stageline and OSHA safety protocols and PPE requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in stage production preferred.
  • Experience operating Stageline Mobile Stages is a plus.
  • Mechanical and Small Engine/Hydraulic experience is highly desirable.
  • Technical skills in carpentry, rigging, lighting, audio-visual systems, or similar are highly desirable.
  • Capability to become the on-site crew lead, or willing to learn how to be an on-site crew lead/crew chief.
  • Knowledge on how to direct local Union and local labor to build stages and production footprint.
  • Maturity and professionalism in working with artists, designers, clients, and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform setup, operation, and teardown of equipment and infrastructure in the staging and rigging department.
  • Knowledge of ballasting and weight distribution for large and temporary structures is required. Responsible for the setup, operation, and teardown of equipment.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles (as trained) to support technical and operational activities.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues during operations, ensuring minimal disruption to workflows.
  • Maintain proficiency with equipment and technologies relevant to their specialty, keeping skills up to date.
  • Collaborate with Operation Manager and other team members to ensure seamless execution of tasks.
  • Execute assigned tasks as part of project workflows, ensuring deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
  • Work on-site during project execution, including setup, operation, and teardown phases.
  • Follow technical plans, specifications, and instructions provided by Operations Manager.
  • Provide real-time input or solutions to address challenges or changes during on-site operations.
  • Perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs of equipment to ensure functionality.
  • Prepare, organize, and stage equipment for upcoming projects or operational needs.
  • Monitor equipment usage on-site, ensuring proper handling and storage to prevent damage.
  • Document and report equipment issues or repair needs to the appropriate leadership and in the online Issues Tracker.
  • Work alongside Supervisors and other team members to achieve shared goals.
  • Communicate updates, challenges, or resource needs to leadership promptly.
  • Foster a collaborative and professional work environment by maintaining positive relationships with peers.
  • Provide updates on task completion, equipment readiness, and operational challenges.
  • Escalate complex issues that require managerial input or decision-making.
  • Share relevant updates and resources with Supervisors and other Technicians to maintain alignment.
  • Collaborate with team members to divide tasks efficiently and ensure consistent progress while following the accountability and task tracker.
  • Represent the company’s values of professionalism, quality, and safety during all operations.
  • Contribute to organizational success by maintaining high standards of technical execution and teamwork.
  • Movement: Tow and move mobile stages and production equipment using company vehicles as needed.
  • Operation: Responsible for building and installing mobile stages and production equipment at event sites, ensuring they are operated safely and professionally.
  • Preparation: Support stage and equipment preparation, including cleaning, maintenance, packing/unpacking, and gathering supplemental gear for each event.
  • Fleet Maintenance: Assist with routine and emergency maintenance to keep stages and production equipment in safe, working order.
  • Staging Certification: Attend Stageline-provided stage operation certification training as needed to be authorized for stage operation.
  • Staging Inventory Management: Help maintain production equipment inventory in good, operational condition.
