About The Position

ICDT! is seeking an organized, dependable, and positive Stage Manager to support our Jr. Program productions. This part-time position plays a key role in ensuring rehearsals and performances run smoothly while helping young performers learn backstage responsibility, teamwork, and theatre etiquette. The Stage Manager works closely with the Jr. Director/Music Director and production staff to coordinate rehearsals, manage communication, and oversee backstage operations during performances. Junior productions are casts of approximately 50 students ages 11-14.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience in theatre production (stage management or technical theatre preferred).
  • Ability to work with elementary and middle school–aged students.
  • Calm, clear communicator with strong leadership presence.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced rehearsal and performance setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous stage management experience in youth or educational theatre.
  • Familiarity with calling cues and managing tech rehearsals.
  • Basic knowledge of theatrical terminology and production processes.
  • Experience in classroom or youth program environments.

Responsibilities

  • Attend rehearsals and assist the Directing Team in maintaining a structured, productive environment.
  • Take detailed rehearsal notes, blocking notes, and attendance records.
  • Help track props, costumes, and set pieces in coordination with the production team.
  • Support classroom-style management appropriate for elementary and middle school performers.
  • Assist with distributing production materials, schedules, and updates.
  • Track and maintain script/run sheet with cues, blocking, and technical notes.
  • Coordinate backstage operations during technical rehearsals and performances.
  • Call cues or run sound during performances, if applicable.
  • Ensure performers are prepared, in place, and ready for entrances.
  • Help maintain a safe and organized backstage environment.
  • Serve as a communication liaison between the Director, production team, and families as needed.
  • Distribute rehearsal schedules and updates.
  • Track conflicts and maintain clear documentation.
  • Model professionalism, preparedness, and respectful communication at all times.
  • Teach and reinforce backstage etiquette, including quiet backstage behavior, prop responsibility, and respect for costumes and set pieces.
  • Support students in understanding rehearsal expectations, time management, and personal responsibility.
  • Assist young performers with transitions between activities to maintain focus and structure.
  • Assist performers with quick changes, prop tracking, and entrance readiness in a supportive, confidence-building manner.
  • Help create a rehearsal and backstage environment where all students feel safe, valued, and heard.
  • Maintain awareness of student well-being and communicate any concerns to the Director or program leadership.
