About The Position

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Staffing Coordinator will ensure the right caregiver is in the right place at the right time and direct communication to the appropriate escalation point. The Coordinator(s) ensures that all clinical nursing units are adequately staffed by assigning available staffing resources to all care areas according to patient census and approved staffing guidelines. Provides continuous monitoring of staff resources utilizing input from computerized scheduling software, requests from individual units and feedback from Unit Directors, Charge Nurses, and Administrative Supervisors. Participates in bed meeting huddles each shift understand staffing needs. Prepares, troubleshoots, and resolves daily and future staffing and scheduling matters to maintain staffing guidelines to maximize the delivery of safe, quality care, and to minimize cost of patient care services. Plans, organizes, and prioritizes tasks and schedule to meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrates effective communication skills and the ability to work with others to achieve and support the patient care units/departments. Works in collaboration with Unit Directors, Administrative Nursing Supervisors or their designees, and Charge Nurses to maintain the schedule coordination for each unit/department. Preparation and distribution of reports necessary for analysis of productivity, overtime, sick leave, unscheduled call-ins, and low census. Communicates staffing issues to appropriate Leadership. Works with the Nursing Supervisor and or Unit Director/charge nurse to adjust staffing according to pre-determined guidelines. Works continuously with available staff to fill open shifts and balance existing work schedules. Receives and logs telephone calls from staff unable to fulfill their staffing commitments. Records and communicates information to appropriate parties in a timely manner. Works with available contingency staff and Managers to fill staffing vacancies created. Serves as a super user for scheduling software and assists unit staff as needed with software based issues. Assists with orientation of new Scheduling staff members on software. Ensures hospital staff shift assignments are accurately captured in the hospital's staff scheduling system. Utilizes down-time procedures appropriately. Other duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Experience in a hospital environment and in clinical service support functions required.
  • Must have experience with computers with high degree of accuracy.
  • Applies effective problem-solving skills Prioritize and multi-task in a fast paced environment and demonstrate a sense of urgency as appropriate.
  • Ability to pay attention to details resulting in thorough follow through.

Nice To Haves

  • College Degree in healthcare or business preferred.
  • Two years of staffing experience preferred.
