About The Position

Warby Parker is on the lookout for a Staff Web Engineer to help drive the evolution of our mission critical business systems. In this role you’ll take ownership of the development, design, testing strategy and standards of the Warby Parker web application. You’ll also help establish best practices and guidance around all aspects of our technology in order to help build a best-in-class technology discipline. Think you’ve got the goods? Keep reading.

Requirements

  • Backed by 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Experienced building modern and performant frontend applications with or more modern client-side frameworks (e.g., React, Next.js) in a professional setting
  • An expert in domain modeling and system design
  • Someone with deep technical experience with cloud providers, distributed systems, and service-oriented architecture
  • A clear, concise communicator with the ability to influence others
  • Someone with a strong belief in accountability, who holds engineering teams to a high standard
  • An expert in data modeling in one or more modern relational databases
  • Someone with strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, object-oriented design, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
  • Able, willing, and just plain excited to learn new domains quickly
  • Insatiably curious and passionate about innovation
  • Not on the Office of Inspector General’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE)

Nice To Haves

  • Direct involvement with open source software projects
  • Experience optimizing the JavaScript performance of high-volume systems
  • Experience using Vercel

Responsibilities

  • Help build and design a roadmap for your engineering team to build highly scalable, observable, and reliable systems
  • Drive the execution and delivery of this roadmap across the engineering organization, working closely with stakeholders, SREs, and other principal engineers
  • Provide technical guidance and facilitate the process of engineering design reviews on migrations towards service-oriented architecture, changes to existing architecture, and making existing systems more scalable
  • Build a metrics-driven operational culture support our practices for KPI measurement and review, as well as for logging, monitoring, alerting practices
  • Propose and drive large improvements to business systems to achieve significant impact to our business
  • Mentor and coach other engineers to be help solve technical challenges and grow overall technical prowesses
