If you want to be part of shaping the future of mobility, then read on! We are looking for a Staff Systems Safety Engineer to join our team. The goal of a Systems Safety Engineer at Wisk is to accurately assess risk to inform decision-making and ensure an appropriate level of safety for autonomous aircraft systems. You will be part of the RAMS team that identifies hazards associated with aircraft functions, ground systems, and items, and develops mitigation strategies to support certification. This is a hybrid work opportunity. At Wisk, this means working onsite at our Mountain View office 3 days per week with flexibility for the remainder of the days. In this role, you will work alongside cross-functional engineering teams to identify, quantify, and mitigate risks associated with aircraft and supporting systems. You will apply both qualitative and quantitative safety assessment methods, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and support the development and verification of safety requirements.

Requirements

  • B.S. in engineering with 8–10+ years of experience in systems safety engineering
  • Experience working in aerospace or safety-critical system development environments
  • Strong understanding of safety engineering principles for complex, safety-critical systems
  • Experience with ARP4754A, ARP4761, DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160, MIL-STD-882, or similar standards
  • Familiarity with certification frameworks including FAA regulations, TSOs, MOPS, RTCA, and SAE standards
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization

Responsibilities

  • As part of the RAMS organization, you will act as a Systems Safety Engineer supporting development of a novel autonomous aircraft platform
  • You will develop and manage the System Safety Plan in alignment with SAE/ARP4754A and SAE/ARP4761 guidelines
  • You will support certification efforts by defining safety targets using regulations such as 14 CFR 23.1309
  • You will coordinate safety activities across engineering teams and monitor design changes impacting system safety
  • You will collaborate with airworthiness authorities and Designated Engineering Representatives to validate safety approaches
  • You will verify implementation of mitigation strategies and provide recommendations and limitations
  • You will help flow down safety and reliability requirements to design, verification, and flight test teams
