About The Position

The Staff Systems Safety Engineer serves as the organization’s authority and subject matter expert on the safety of all company products and services, setting best practices and representing the enterprise at key industry forums. The incumbent provides strategic, enterprise-level guidance for safety engineering across military and civil ground, airborne, and weapon systems, acting as the principal escalation point for critical safety concerns and leading company-wide responses. This role oversees the integration of safety into design, configuration management, and cross-functional processes, drives continuous improvement, and ensures compliance with leading standards such as MIL-STD-882E, NAS411, SAE ARP4761, FAA regulations and emerging global safety standards. The Staff Systems Safety Engineer shapes internal and external safety policies, leads strategic industry and customer engagements, and steers safety activities to align with business objectives—positioning safety as a key organizational differentiator and maintaining the company’s reputation as an industry leader.

Responsibilities

  • Perform required safety engineering tasks and analysis in the performance of product or services contractual statement of work.
  • Development and delivery of systems safety documentation and reports such as Safety Analysis Report (SAR) and Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA).
  • Establish and govern organizational safety processes and frameworks, ensuring consistent and best-in-class practices in design reviews, program plans, and process templates.
  • Chair and set the agenda for the Safety Review Board (SRB), fostering cross-programmatic learning and continuous improvement in safety governance.
  • Lead strategic engagement in customer mishap investigations, providing expert testimony and shaping industry standards and best practices.
  • Curate and disseminate enterprise-level safety knowledge, synthesizing data to proactively identify and mitigate systemic risks across all products and services.
  • Represent safety as senior authority at Configuration Change Boards and executive reviews, embedding safety in major decisions and influencing customer perception.
  • Translate complex customer and regulatory safety requirements into robust system and subsystem specifications, ensuring alignment and future readiness.
  • Build and nurture high-level strategic relationships with customers, contractors, and service providers, advocating for the company’s safety interests globally.
  • Maintain and advance organizational expertise in key safety standards (e.g., MIL-STD-882E, NAS411, SAE ARP4761, DO-178, FAA AC 25-1309, DEFSTAN 00-56, IEC 61508), ensuring global compliance and innovation.
  • Lead strategic input for new business proposals and cost estimating, positioning safety as a differentiator and supporting organizational growth.
  • Primary interface for senior military customer leadership, representing the company’s safety authority and shaping customer strategy.
  • Strategic engagement with commercial aviation and Department of Homeland Security leadership, positioning the company as an industry leader in safety.
  • Interface with ESL, other Elbit America companies and affiliate companies.
  • Lead coordination with outside service companies, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers at a strategic partnership level.
  • Work with HW Design Engineering, SW Design Engineering, Quality Engineering, Documentation Management.
