About The Position

The Staff Support Technician in the Emergency Room plays a crucial role in providing support to nursing staff and ensuring patient comfort and safety in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This position involves direct interaction with patients, assisting with basic care under the supervision of Registered Nurses, and facilitating communication between patients, their families, and the care team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to patient call lights promptly and courteously.
  • Makes hourly or more frequent rounds on patients for safety and comfort as directed by the RN.
  • Positions, lifts, transfers, and ambulates patients as directed by the RN using Safe Patient Handling equipment.
  • Assists with setting up meals for patients and ordering meals.
  • Keeps patient rooms tidy, refreshes patient linen as needed, and removes unnecessary equipment and linen.
  • Assists patients with simple hygiene and comfort measures such as washing hands/face and oral care.
  • Transports patients to other departments or during discharge when directed by the RN.
  • Remains with the patient continuously for safety when directed by the RN.
  • Handles infectious waste and linen according to established hospital procedures.
  • Adheres to proper infection control standards and hand washing techniques.
  • Cleans and disinfects unit-specific equipment.
  • Answers phones and assists the Unit Concierge as needed during the shift.
  • Acts as a 'Runner' to other departments to obtain necessary items for patient care.
