About The Position

As a Staff Software Engineer at Farther, you'll be a technical leader who shapes how we build software. You'll drive architecture decisions, tackle our most complex challenges, and guide other engineers while remaining deeply hands-on. We're building an elite engineering team. We look for three things: deep technical expertise in your craft, high horsepower to rapidly context-switch across complex problems, and a track record of winning in multiple areas of your life. We give Staff engineers significant autonomy to drive technical strategy. You'll own major architectural decisions, establish engineering standards, and be accountable for technical outcomes. We trust you to make the right calls and measure success by the impact you create, not the process you follow. We expect technical leaders to champion AI adoption. As a Staff engineer, you'll demonstrate how to leverage AI tools to accelerate development, improve code quality, and multiply team effectiveness. You'll help the organization work smarter and ship faster by showing teams how AI can transform their workflow.

Requirements

10+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated ability to work across the full stack
Fluency with AI coding tools and passion for leveraging them strategically – you're already multiplying your output and want to help others do the same
Thrives with high autonomy and ownership – you want to drive technical strategy and own major architectural decisions without micromanagement
Track record of making significant technical decisions that positively impact engineering organizations
Outstanding communication – you explain complex concepts clearly and provide actionable updates
Builder mentality – you ship working software and iterate, not write specs endlessly
Tenacity to tackle difficult problems head-on
Self-directed and autonomous – you work independently on high-level guidance
Experience mentoring engineers and driving technical best practices
Track record of winning in multiple areas of your life

Nice To Haves

Experience building financial services, trading systems, or wealth management platforms
Background in high-availability system design and real-time data processing
Experience with event-driven architectures
Knowledge of financial regulatory requirements and compliance

Responsibilities

Drive technical architecture decisions that shape the future of our platform
Lead the design and implementation of large-scale systems spanning frontend and backend
Establish engineering standards and best practices that scale across the organization
Champion adoption of AI tools across engineering teams – demonstrate how to leverage AI to multiply effectiveness and accelerate delivery
Tackle complex technical challenges in system design, scalability, reliability, and performance
Operate with significant autonomy – own major technical decisions and be accountable for architectural outcomes
Guide and mentor engineers through complex technical decisions
Drive technical excellence through code reviews, architecture reviews, and documentation
