About The Position

RavenVolt is looking for a full-time Staff Software Engineer with strong AWS cloud expertise to help design and build the backend services and infrastructure that power RavenVolt’s remote monitoring and virtual power plant solution. This role will contribute across the full software development lifecycle—requirements, architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support—and will partner closely with engineers, product, and other stakeholders. As a Staff Engineer, you will also provide technical leadership: driving architecture decisions, raising engineering standards, mentoring teammates, and helping teams deliver secure, scalable, and reliable systems—especially for IoT-driven workloads and cloud-native services on AWS.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Ability to communicate ideas effectively to other software engineers
  • Able to work proactively and take ownership of outcomes
  • Able to work solo or on a team as project requires
  • Able to troubleshoot issues and drive problems to resolution
  • Strong hands-on experience building cloud-native systems on AWS
  • Experience with AWS IoT Core (device connectivity, messaging patterns, rules engine, integration to downstream services)
  • Infrastructure-as-Code experience using AWS CloudFormation (templates, stacks, change sets, repeatable environments)
  • Strong AWS networking knowledge (VPC design, subnets, routing, security groups/NACLs, private connectivity patterns)
  • Knowledge of Security Best Practices in AWS, including: IAM least privilege & role-based access Encryption at rest/in transit (e.g., KMS usage patterns) Logging/auditing (e.g., CloudTrail/centralized logs) Secure networking patterns and environment isolation
  • 5–7 years building production backend systems (services, APIs, distributed systems)
  • Proficiency with one or more of: Python Java .NET (C#)
  • Experience building reliable integrations and data pipelines (event-driven patterns preferred)
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL (schema design, indexing, query optimization, migrations, performance tuning)
  • Strong SQL fundamentals

Nice To Haves

  • Frontend and/or full-stack familiarity: React and Node.js
  • CI/CD experience (any of the following or similar): AWS CodePipeline / CodeBuild / CodeDeploy GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.
  • Automated testing and deployment strategies (blue/green, canary, feature flags)
  • Container and orchestration experience (ECS/EKS, Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Observability experience (metrics, logs, tracing; alerting and dashboards)
  • AWS Certifications (nice-to-have): AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional) AWS Certified Developer AWS Certified Security – Specialty

Responsibilities

  • Own technical architecture for key components (scalability, reliability, observability, cost awareness)
  • Build and optimize IoT data ingestion pipelines and event-driven services using AWS-native patterns
  • Establish and enforce cloud security best practices (least privilege, secrets management, encryption, auditing)
  • Improve developer productivity through standards, reusable patterns, reviews, and mentorship
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver features end-to-end, from concept through production support
  • Troubleshoot production issues and drive root-cause analysis and long-term corrective actions
