Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Austin Innovation Technical Center, GM Global Technical Center, or Mountain View Technical Center three times per week (at minimum). The Role: We are the Physical eCommerce Software Engineering team within the Digital Products Engineering (DPE) organization at GM. Our team is responsible for the GM Global B2C and B2B eCommerce solution for physical products (Parts & Accessories) and provide backend services for the sales of GM Energy Products (Home Charger and Charger Adapters). We collaborate closely with Accessories marketing and CCA businesses driving online sales through our platform, providing an end to end digital and innovative experience at scale while providing meaningful value to our customers through a seamless customer experience. Our main goals are improving the customer experience, driving sales, and expanding our solution to other potential lines of business for physical products with the opportunity to explore Market Place approaches. What You’ll Do Seasoned Staff Software Engineer with deep expertise in building scalable, resilient, and customer-centric eCommerce platforms , As the Physical eCommerce Staff Engineer, you will lead complex engineering initiatives, considering design and implementation of scalable full stack (front and backend system) , APIs, and database, applying best practices on Software Development processes, design, create/improve technical /design documentation and guiding development teams to ensure solutions/systems achieve high availability, performance, scalability and security, to support continuous growth and expansion of GM’s enterprise eCommerce B2C and B2B solutions, leveraging a combination of COTS products, homegrown developed systems and services, ensuring seamless integration with various GM’s systems and external solutions. It will be vital to support the engineering team through the entire lifecycle of implementations, operations and maintenance of existing and future new systems/platforms. Needs to demonstrate proven track records of leading cross functional engineering efforts to optimize product discovery, check out flows, and order management systems, looking for continuous improvement on performance, reliability, developer experience and high traffic environments. You’ll partner closely with other SW Engineer Managers from Physical eCommerce and other engineer teams outside eCommerce that support on end-to-end solutions. Develop competency across our complete Commerce backend technology stack, to design and evolve core backend systems, scale product catalog, search, cart, check out and order fulfilment capabilities. Lead with the engineering team the end‑to‑end implementation and ongoing operation of eCommerce solutions (Front and Backend Systems, ensuring systems operate at scale to handle peak traffics (like during holiday seasons) , also guaranteeing low latency and high availability. Define and evolve system architecture across multiple scrum teams. Partner with engineering leadership to align technical direction with Digital Commerce domain strategy. Provide technical leadership, guidance, and technical strategic direction to a team of software engineers composed by Managers, Senior and Mid-Level SW Engineers. Design and support the deployment of future platforms (i.e. Shopify) to support the transformation of the Physical eCommerce space, considering future new line of business and Global expansion. Integrate the new platforms using microservices and distributed architectures in partnership with other Architecture teams and staff engineers. Support and when required perform code reviews, contribute to API governance and help on development, provide guidance on engineering best practices using various technologies like (Java/J2EE, Spring boot, Rest Apis, Micro services, Message Queues- Kafka, IBM MQ, Azure topics, React. Next, etc). Work with Development, Dev Ops and SRE teams to champion best practices in CI/CD pipelines, observability frameworks (e.g., Datadog), incident response and reliability engineering. Leverage your technical leadership to ensure we adhere to engineering best practices and evangelize opportunities to improve engineering productivity. Guide the team to architect and implement scalable, responsive, and accessible solutions using modern frameworks (i.e React/Next JS) and integrating with Tax, Payments, Inventory, Products, customer service applications. Work closely with product team, design and other engineering teams to deliver initiatives and influence cross functional roadmap and priorities Identify opportunities for technical innovation, lead initiatives to improve system performance, drive cost effective solutions, explore new capabilities and technology, lead proof of concepts and productionize solutions that can support expansion of our eCommerce platform. Architect systems that support personalized recommendations, dynamic price updates, real time inventory visibility and updates Ensure the solution is meeting security requirements and customer data privacy compliance
