About The Position

We are currently searching for Staff Scientist to provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD. Collaborate with staff to design, conduct or direct data analysis projects in the areas of systems biology and biostatistics and statistic genetics. Perform a variety of analyses. Maintain a research tracking system and database for all research activities. Maintain and update records of experiments and results, including research documentation. Collaborate with laboratory scientists and participate in planning and managing components of a wide array of data research projects. Establish criteria, formulate projects, assess program effectiveness. Work with staff to answer questions on cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its major risk factors to account for previously unexplained phenomena and/or open significant new avenues for further study, validate or modify scientific theory or methodology relating to the topic area to result in important changes in existing products, processes, techniques or practices. Collect data, perform statistical analysis and prepare data and/or results for presentation and/or publication; provide up-to-date, real-time data analysis Compile, analyze and evaluate data and apply that data to research issues. Create statistical models. Submit summary of research activity to primary investigator. Participate in regularly scheduled laboratory meetings; discuss data and/or results. Write and edit scientific papers. Work with staff to train students and postdoctoral fellows in various research techniques used in laboratory section/unit, and in maintaining laboratory safety. Apply a wide range of conventional, established approaches, methods, techniques and solutions to new situations. Keep abreast of scientific and clinical developments through review of literature, attending professional meetings, conferences and symposia. Operate and perform routine inventory or maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment.

Requirements

  • PhD Degree OR Master’s degree plus 3 years specialized experience in lieu of PhD.
  • At least SIX (6) years of experience in science related field
  • Strong background in genetic epidemiology.
  • Strong focus on integrative multidimensional “omics” research to leverage the wealth of data in areas such as phenotypic, genotypic, transcriptomic, proteomic, DNA Methylation and Next Gen sequencing.
  • Significant experience in large-scale data analysis.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD Public Trust.
  • Candidates must receive approved adjudication of their Public Trust prior to onboarding with Guidehouse.
  • Candidates with an active Public Trust or existing suitability are preferred.
