About The Position

Responsible for assisting clients with real estate transaction and site development services pre- and post-acquisition beyond environmental due diligence activities such as preliminary soil and groundwater investigations, further site investigations, UST and LUST related work activities, site characterization, excavation and disposal, and exposure mitigation activities. The Staff Scientist is expected to learn the overall skills required to be a Project Manager by working closely with the Development Services project management team. This includes developing costs and scopes for next steps, preparing HASPs and field instructions, evaluating, and contacting subcontractors, client support activities as needed by project team, understanding technical support work and workflow, and internal training to understand AME services.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of environmental sampling approaches (soil, groundwater, vapor, and sediment)
  • General knowledge of Environmental Due Diligence (Phase I Environmental Site Assessment and Phase II Subsurface Investigations)
  • Effective time management and organization skills
  • Ability to document and organize information while working on multiple projects
  • Skills in technical writing
  • Ability to interpret geologic and hydrogeologic information and scientific data
  • B.S. in environmental science, geology, engineering, or related field
  • 2 – 3 years of experience in environmental consulting
  • Strong computer and verbal/written communication skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and capable of operating vehicles safely

Responsibilities

  • Learn state regulatory programs
  • Assist with coordinating work
  • Learn and assist with budgeting and scoping of proposals under direction of Project Manager, Senior, or Principal
  • Prepare Health and Safety Plans (HASPs)
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings with Project Managers or at the direction of Project Managers
  • Manage Development Services projects within experience level or tasks of larger projects at the direction of Project Manager or Senior Project Manager
  • Coordinate and administer work utilizing technical support staff
  • Assist and/or lead in project kick-off meetings and developing field instructions
  • Perform project support tasks such as scheduling contractors, identifying subcontractors, etc.
  • Perform regulatory and technical research on projects
  • Communicate with clients as requested by the Project Manager, Senior Manager, or Principal
