About The Position

The Staff RN utilizes the nursing process to deliver comprehensive nursing care to a specific patient population within the care setting. This care involves interpreting and executing medical and nursing treatment plans, adhering to established procedures, standards, and protocols during the assigned work shift. The Staff RN is responsible for providing nursing care to the population served in their unit.

Requirements

  • College Diploma Nursing
  • Registered Nurse License
  • BCLS or ACLS Certification

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to infection prevention guidelines
  • Adheres to policies, procedures, and standards of practice to deliver safe and optimal care
  • Assesses patient history, physiological, and psychosocial status
  • Communicates with the patient, family, medical staff and others during the continuum of care
  • Complies with Joint Commission’s national patient safety goals
  • Complies with organizational quality dashboard/benchmarking goals
  • Interprets common variables affecting patient care and follows reporting process
  • Maintains regulatory compliance consistent with quality standards and ethical obligations of the profession

  • Positions the patient or a body part to provide comfort, reduce the risk of skin breakdown, promote skin integrity, and/or promote healing
  • Establishes and maintains a regular pattern of bowel elimination
  • Manages a patient with a gastrointestinal tube
  • Manages a patient with urinary drainage equipment
  • Establishes a predictable pattern of bladder emptying to prevent incontinence for persons with limited cognitive ability who have urge, stress or functional incontinence
  • Maintains elimination through a stoma and cares for surrounding tissue
  • Assists with or provides a balanced dietary intake of foods and fluids
  • Administers food and fluids to support metabolic processes of a patient who is malnourished or at high risk of becoming malnourished
  • Facilitates swallowing and prevents complications of impaired swallowing
  • Maintains and promotes oral hygiene and dental health for the patient at risk for developing oral or dental lesions
  • Prevents or minimizes risk factors in the patient at risk of aspiration
  • Maintains ET and Trach tubes and prevents complications associated with their use
  • Facilitates regular sleep/wake cycles
  • Uses pharmacologic agents to reduce or eliminate pain
  • Collects and analyzes patient data to maintain skin and mucous membrane integrity
  • Protects and safely reintegrates the affected part of the body while helping the patient adapt to disturbed perceptual abilities
  • Assists with specific physical, cognitive, social and spiritual activities to increase the range, frequency, or duration of an individuals activity
  • Helps a patient to manage negative behaviors (Behavior Management)
  • Promotes behavioral change (Behavior Modification)
  • Improves a patient's conscious and unconscious perceptions and attitudes toward his/her body (Body Image Enhancement)
  • Assists in accepting and learning alternate methods for living with diminished hearing (Communication Enhancement: Hearing Deficit)
  • Assists in accepting and learning alternate methods for living with impaired speech (Communication Enhancement: Speech)
  • Assists in accepting and learning alternate methods for living with diminished vision (Communication Enhancement: Visual Deficit)
  • Assists a patient to adapt to perceived stressors, changes or threats which interfere with meeting life demands and roles (Coping Enhancement)
  • Provides information and support for a patient family member who is making a decision regarding health care (Decision making support)
  • Provides a safe and therapeutic environment for the patient who is experiencing an acute confusional state (Delirium Management)
  • Provides a modified environment for the patient who is experiencing a chronic confusional state
  • Promotes awareness of personal identity, time and environment and situation
  • Uses the recall of past events, feelings and thoughts to facilitate adaptation to present circumstances
  • Promotes physical comfort and psychological peace in the final phase of life
  • Assists with the resolution of a significant loss
  • Promotes the ability to process and comprehend information (Learning Facilitation)
  • Collaborates with patient to identify and prioritize care goals, then develops a plan for achieving those goals through the construction and use of goal attaining scaling (Mutual Goal Setting)
  • Identifies high-risk dependent relationships and takes actions to prevent possible or further infliction of physical, sexual, emotional harm and neglect of basic necessities of life
  • Plans and evaluates patient care with health professionals from other disciplines
