About The Position

The overall goal of the research project is to aid in the development and application of novel agents to alleviate the burden of congenital heart defects, pulmonary hypertension and birth asphyxia using large animal models. The incumbent will work under the PI’s direct supervision and will be involved in the laboratory to support these goals. Major duties will include 1) routine pre-, peri- and post-operative animal care including documentation; 2) assisting with all large animal procedures, 3) record keeping, data acquisition, and sample collection and processing during large animal surgery; 4) ordering of supplies, shipment of samples, and preparation of all surgical equipment and spaces. Training will be provided. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $28.96 - $34.58 (Hourly Rate). Requirements

  • BA/BS in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge/experience in large animal experimental studies: monitoring anesthesia, IV catheter insertion.
  • Computer proficiency, experience with Excel, and database management proficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Diligent attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge/experience in basic laboratory techniques: preparation of buffers, serial dilutions, chemical weighing and handling.
  • Knowledge of pre and post-operative care of large animals.
  • Experience with database and statistical software.
