The UCSF-SFGH JJBH research team engages in a program of research that incorporates epidemiological/observation, behavioral intervention efficacy trial, and structural-level approaches to understanding how to improve behavioral health (HIV and sexually transmitted infections risk, psychiatric symptoms, substance use), and legal (recidivism) outcomes for system-involved youth and adults. The JJBH team also has a portfolio of work focusing on projects and programs specific to behavioral health service navigation for youth, young adults and families (e.g., a navigator program for transition age youth recently or currently involved in foster care, a family navigator program for youth and families served in Pediatric Primary Care at ZSFG), telehealth interventions for youth and families impacted by the child welfare system, and evaluation of gender-responsive behavioral health services for girls and women who have contact with the justice system (e.g., evaluation of VoicesHEAL gender responsive services). The Juvenile inJustice Behavioral Health (JJBH) lab is seeking a Staff Research Associate. The incumbent will assist with complex tasks on a few projects within the JJBH lab such as EmpowerED. Project EmpowerED is a collaborative grassroots effort to develop a Less Restrictive Program (LRP) for youth detained in Secure Youth Treatment Facility (SYTF) programs who are interested in pursuing higher education. LRPs are promising alternatives to youth incarceration, allowing youth to serve their time in community-based settings. This work is being led by Cre8innovations, a community-based organization led by formerly incarcerated professionals in partnership with the Office of Youth and Community Restoration (OYCR). The current study aims to document the LRP development process using implementation science frameworks to create a blueprint for future LRP development across California. The Division of Infant, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (ICAP) at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) is looking to hire an Administrative Assistant on Dr. Marina Tolou-Shams’ Juvenile inJustice Behavioral Health (JJBH) research team.
