About The Position

GitHub is changing how the world builds software, and we need to change how we build it ourselves. The Developer Experience (DX) team's mission is to empower GitHub developers to do their best work while ensuring our platforms are stable, secure, and reliable. As AI agents become first-class participants in our development workflows, that mission now extends to making the platform work for both humans and machines. This is not a role where you'll maintain the status quo. We're looking for a Staff Product Manager to define the product direction for the DX platform that serves thousands of engineers building one of the most widely used developer tools on the planet. You'll own the vision for how GitHub's developers and AI agents ship faster, validate sooner, and operate on clean, opinionated paths from commit to production. You'll work with engineering leadership and partner organizations across the company to turn strategy into shipped outcomes. GitHub’s engineering and product management organizations are highly distributed, and we embrace an environment of asynchronous communication. We expect you to have strong communication skills and be able to build working relationships with coworkers in locations around the globe. We value collaboration, empathy, quality, positive impact, and shipping. You will excel when the way you work reflects these values.

Requirements

  • 8+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in related field AND 6+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
  • OR equivalent experience
  • 3+ years experience delivering projects that involve complex technical problems across organizational boundaries.
  • Strong technical foundation with deep understanding of modern software delivery practices including CI/CD, testing strategies, observability, and service-oriented architectures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building or leading internal developer platforms, developer productivity programs, or platform engineering teams.
  • Strong technical intuition with the ability to engage senior engineers on architecture decisions, understand their implications for product plans, and navigate those tradeoffs effectively.
  • Demonstrated, measurable improvement to developer productivity metrics in a previous role.
  • Experience shipping AI-powered developer tools or integrating LLM-based capabilities into product workflows.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience defining metrics and using them to drive decisions and measure impact.

Responsibilities

  • Define the product vision and strategy for DX, focused on making GitHub the fastest place to ship software at scale.
  • Own and drive the roadmap for developer velocity and experimentation, balancing near-term developer pain points with long-term DX bets.
  • Identify opportunities to shift internal workflows from manual processes to API-first, agent-compatible automation.
  • Shape how AI agents and AI-assisted workflows integrate with the development platform, ensuring internal systems are designed for both human and agentic consumers.
  • Partner with engineering to define success metrics and hold the team accountable to outcomes.
  • Build deep expertise in GitHub's internal development workflows and translate that knowledge into clear priorities.
  • Drive adoption of opinionated development paths by making the paved path the easiest path.
  • Work cross-functionally with teams across GitHub to deliver initiatives that span organizational boundaries.
  • Act as the voice of the internal developer, using qualitative feedback and quantitative data to influence investment decisions.
