Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale The Role As Staff Product Manager – Vehicle Controls & Settings, you will lead the strategy and execution for GM’s unified digital control and vehicle settings experiences. This role spans the entire domain of controls (immediate, action‑oriented interactions) and settings (persistent, personalized configuration), shaping how customers understand, interact with, and customize their vehicles. You will establish the overarching product direction for the vehicle Settings experience, digital and hybrid controls, and the broader ecosystem of preferences and personalization. You will define system‑level patterns that create clarity, reduce complexity, and ensure consistency across GM’s global vehicle portfolio. This position requires operating at both strategic and execution levels, setting long‑term vision, guiding cross‑functional teams, and ensuring best-in-class experiences.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of product management experience in digital products, with at least 3 years in vehicle interfaces, human‑machine interaction, or complex UX systems.
  • Expertise in UI design patterns and human factors, with a proven ability to translate research, safety requirements, and customer insight into product direction.
  • Strong leadership experience guiding cross‑functional teams and aligning diverse stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of regulatory and automotive considerations related to digital controls and user interaction.
  • Proven experience shaping strategy, managing roadmaps, and driving clarity in complex, technical environments.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, capable of influencing at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Data‑driven decision maker able to evaluate telemetry, research, and customer insights to set direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to create frameworks, standards, and patterns that scale across products or programs.

Responsibilities

  • Own the unified product vision for Vehicle Controls & Settings, bringing together real-time control and customer preferences into a cohesive, intuitive experience.
  • Define and prioritize features that simplify interactions, reduce confusion, and make controls and settings discoverable and intuitive.
  • Lead multi‑disciplinary teams across engineering, UX/UI, vehicle architecture, human factors, and validation to deliver coherent control and configuration experiences.
  • Translate research, safety requirements, and customer insights into scalable product patterns that apply across multiple vehicle lines.
  • Shape the design and evolution of the Settings application, establishing clear structure, consistent logic, and taxonomy improvements for hundreds of preferences.
  • Develop frameworks and interaction models that bring consistency to toggles, modes, controls, and configuration across all GM vehicle programs.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and identify opportunities to advance personalization, configuration, and interaction quality.
  • Manage roadmaps and backlogs for Controls & Settings, ensuring cross‑functional alignment and clarity of priorities.
  • Define KPIs and success metrics that measure usability, discoverability, and customer satisfaction across the domain.
  • Communicate strategy, tradeoffs, and product direction to cross‑functional partners and senior leadership.
  • Lead post‑launch evaluation and continuously improve the experience through customer feedback, data insights, and emerging trends.
