About The Position

Join the Surgical House Moonlighter Team at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. This casual position involves performing surgical assessment, evaluation, history and physical exams, and consultations on patients with surgical conditions, complications, or changes in postoperative status. Responsibilities also include assisting in the operating room, ordering lab work, and consulting with attending physicians for inpatients with major illnesses or injuries. Core privileges extend to emergent procedures such as the insertion of chest tubes, central lines, pulmonary artery catheters, and cricothyrotomy. The role is compensated at $170 per hour and includes Professional Liability/Medical Malpractice Insurance, though it is not eligible for other benefits. Requirements

  • Completion of (at least) the first two years of an ACGME or AOA-approved surgery residency program
  • Meeting the requirements of the specific residency program enrolled in
  • Have a medical license and DEA in the State of Minnesota
  • Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for credentialing and privileges

Responsibilities

  • Perform surgical assessment, evaluation, history and physical exam, and consultation on patients regarding potential or recognized surgical conditions, complications of surgery or trauma, or change of status issues in the postoperative period
  • Assist in operating room
  • Order appropriate lab work
  • Consult with attending physician on inpatients with major illnesses or injuries
  • Perform emergent procedures such as: insertion of chest tubes, central lines, pulmonary artery catheter, and cricothyrotomy
