About The Position

Provides full range of physical therapy services to patients. This position works independently and in consultation of referring physicians with guidance of the supervisory personnel, organizing treatments to meet established criteria and proper documentation in patient’s medical records.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy.
  • Current or temporary licensure in the state of West Virginia. Permanent licensure obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of physical therapy modalities.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year acute hospital experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the direction of the Physical Therapy Department supportive staff including physical therapy assistants, physical therapy aides and clerical staff.
  • Observes and evaluates treatment effect, recommend changes to physician as needed.
  • Performs an appropriate evaluation on all patients as related to the therapy requested by treating physician and performs re-evaluation as per policy.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychological, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, hospital staff, and administrative team.
  • Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
  • Maintains records pertinent to the personnel and operation of the department.
  • Ensures that the patient charges are accurate and turned in on a timely manner.
  • Assists with orientation and in-service training for certified department staff members, participates in guidance and educational programs both within the department and community.
  • Ensures that documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
