About The Position

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a part-time Staff Pharmacist for the Acute Services within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. The primary purpose of the part-time Staff Pharmacist is to perform a variety of professional and technical functions for the hospital-wide unit dose drug distribution system. Responsible for reviewing physician orders and prescriptions, maintaining confidential reports, entering and retrieving data utilizing the computer system, responding to requests for drug information, checking technician work and delivering medication to the appropriate units as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy or Pharm. D. Degree from an accredited school of Pharmacy.
  • New Jersey Pharmacy License.
  • Working knowledge of psychiatric medications.
  • Must be able to communicate with patients with behavioral issues.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in drug counseling for child, adolescent and geriatric inpatients and outpatients when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) to twelve (12) months of pharmacy experience.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately profiles medication orders into the pharmacy information system.
  • Fills patient medication envelopes with the correct medication from computer labels prior to each scheduled delivery.
  • Fills and delivers narcotic orders to nursing unit and ancillary departments according to policy and procedure.
  • Restocks nursing units with a limited supply of floor stock medications and supplies.
  • Prepackages and labels medications into unit doses from bulk supply.
  • Reorders pharmacy supplies from approved vendor.
  • Bills/credits patient medications by use of the computer charging system.
  • Assists in monthly inspections of medication storage areas at each nursing unit and ancillary.
