About The Position

We are SLR Consulting (US), a 500+ coast-to-coast team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. We are Making Sustainability Happen. As our new Staff or Project Environmental Scientist you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal. Role The successful applicant will join our Alaska Land and Water Group, supporting a wide range of technical activities related to site investigation, environmental assessment, and site remediation, including the design of active treatment systems. This role involves regular travel and the ability to perform fieldwork in both urban and remote locations across Alaska. The position offers significant opportunities for professional growth and advancement, with exposure to diverse project work in site investigation and cleanup, waste management, environmental permitting and compliance, and air quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science or related field.
  • 0-3 years of experience with soil and groundwater assessment and remediation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel by airplane and car, including overnight travel for extended (e.g., 2-3 week) periods.
  • Ability to perform physical work in harsh weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in data interpretation and preparation of site work plans, spreadsheets, figures, conceptual site models, and technical reports.
  • Compliance with and assessment of requirements of environmental regulations
  • Assist with Phase I ESAs, including desktop document review and public records requests.
  • Assist with obtaining permits and public utility locate requests for environmental construction tasks.
  • Coordinate groundwater monitoring programs (i.e., quarterly events).
  • Be engaged with the company’s Health & Safety program.
  • Preparing geologic or other site maps.
  • Effectively communicate with Project Managers, subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during field activities.
  • Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
  • Environmental sampling of groundwater, surface water, soil vapor, and stormwater.
  • Environmental monitoring of groundwater levels, surface water flow conditions, stormwater controls, and possibly dust or air conditions.
  • Maintenance of environmental monitoring equipment, which could include calibration, ordering of calibration materials, record-keeping.
  • Coordinating monitoring and sampling events, which would include laboratory coordination, bottles, Chains-of-Custody, sample shipment and procurement (or rental) of all necessary equipment (e.g. instruments) to complete monitoring events.
  • Maintaining environmental and operational databases and file systems.
  • Assisting with safety documentation for environmental activities.
  • Supervising drilling and well installation projects to collect lithologic, environmental and hydrogeologic data.
  • Performing Construction Quality Assurance field supervision during the construction of liner systems at mines or landfills.
